How to Detox Your Car for January

This month, most people are busy dieting and detoxing following a heavy festive period of eating and drinking.

But just as the excess food and alcohol consumed over Christmas can be tough on your body, the winter weather can be tough on your car. So, have you thought about taking your four-wheeled friend on your detox journey with you?

This week, we’re going to share some of our top tips to give your car a helping hand in to the New Year.

Hose it down

All that grit that keeps our roads safe in winter can attack your car over time. Take a hosepipe to the underside of your car and under the wheel arches and remove the worst of it. It’s a lot less likely to then stick around and damage your paintwork.

Vacuum the interior

It might seem obvious, but taking ten minutes to vac the inside of your car will make the world of difference. It will get rid of debris such as food and crumbs, and lift away ingrained grime to leave your car feeling and looking lovely. Don’t forget the air freshener!

Run the air conditioning

You might think we’re crazy telling you to run your air con in winter, but doing so can help prevent expensive problems due to non-use come summer time. Give your air con a quick blast for ten minutes once or twice a week to keep it ticking over – it can even help to clear your windscreen more quickly.

Clean the windows

Not just the outside, but the inside, too! It’s amazing how much grime can build up on the inside of the glass, so take a couple of minutes to wipe them down thoroughly and see how your view is totally transformed.

Swap the oil

Your oil will degrade over time, meaning that it will be less effective at keeping your engine lubricated and working properly. A post-Christmas oil change will help your engine to run more smoothly and prevent any damage occurring.

Hit the motorway

When you’ve done all of the above, take your car for a drive on the motorway. A quick blast in fifth gear will clear out all the toxins in your engine helping it to ‘breathe’ and run more smoothly.
